Bio
A potent full-forward who maintained an impressive strike rate throughout his interrupted VFL career, George Gough first emerged with Fitzroy in the years immediately following World War I. After establishing himself as a key target and topping the Maroons' goalkicking in 1921, he crossed to Northcote in the VFA, where he spent five seasons cementing a reputation as a prolific scorer. Carlton lured him back to the League in 1927 to spearhead their attack, and he immediately proved he could still match it with the best defenders, averaging two goals a game during his time at Princes Park. Gough topped the Blues' goalkicking list in 1928, securing the rare distinction of leading the scoring at two different VFL clubs before departing the senior level.
