Stats
Bio
Recruited from Bairnsdale in country Victoria, George Hancock was a hulking key forward who earned his chance at VFL level as a 25-year-old. Standing 187cm and tipping the scales at 104kg, he was one of the heaviest players in the league at the time, using his sheer size to bustle through packs and create a stationery target in attack. He made a promising start to his tenure at Glenferrie Oval, booting two goals on debut in a win over South Melbourne and finishing with five majors from his five senior appearances. Despite showing he could hit the scoreboard, his stint in the brown and gold was confined to the 1956 season, playing a brief cameo role in a Hawthorn side that was slowly beginning to find its feet before he eventually departed the league.
