  • VFL Premiership2012

Recruited from Sturt with pick 37 in the 2010 National Draft, George Horlin-Smith arrived at Geelong as a talented dual-sportsman who had notably captained the Australian under-16 cricket team. A clever inside midfielder with clean hands and strong clearance instincts, he possessed a high football IQ but often lacked the breakaway pace required to secure a permanent role in a star-studded Cats engine room. Despite showing flashes of ability at AFL level, he spent much of his tenure at Kardinia Park dominating the VFL, eventually requesting a trade to the Gold Coast Suns at the end of 2018 in search of greater senior opportunities. His stint in Queensland was ultimately hampered by injury and form struggles, restricting him to just seven games over two seasons before his delisting in 2020, concluding his career as a respected clubman who could never quite translate his prolific state-league form into a consistent spot at the highest level.
