Bio
Born in Geelong, George Lockwood holds a unique place in league history alongside his brother Teddy as the VFL's first set of twins. Although he arrived at the elite level via a stint with East Fremantle in Western Australia, Lockwood began his Victorian career with his hometown club in 1899. After three seasons with the Pivotonians, he and Teddy transferred to Collingwood in 1902, a move that proved immediately fruitful for the Magpies. While his twin was a celebrated forward, George carved out his own niche as a dependable back pocket defender, renowned for his steady work in the last line of defence. His defensive discipline was a vital component of the club's golden era, seeing him play a key role in the back-to-back premiership sides of 1902 and 1903.
