Bio
George McGrath was a solidly built defender recruited from Warrnambool who became a consistent presence in the Geelong backline during the late 1950s. After debuting in the opening round of 1956, he played a handful of games in his first year before missing the entire 1957 season. He returned to the senior side in 1958, using his imposing 92kg frame to anchor the half-back line and repel opposition attacks with physical strength. McGrath remained a regular selection for the Cats over the next five years, playing a disciplined defensive role that saw him finish his 71-game career without registering a goal.
