Bio
Hailing from Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula, George McLear was a determined defender whose brief VFL career was defined by persistence and service. After failing to crack Richmond’s senior list during an initial trial run in 1910, he returned to the country before refining his craft with the Queenscliffe Artillery Garrison team. He finally earned his stripes in 1914, breaking into the Tigers' lineup as a half-back flanker for three senior appearances. However, his tenure at Punt Road was abruptly curtailed by the outbreak of World War I, with McLear enlisting in the AIF as a gunner and never returning to league football after his service overseas.
