Bio
Born into a rich football pedigree, George Morrissey jnr was the son of former St Kilda captain George Morrissey Snr and the cousin of North Melbourne regular Jack Morrissey. He commenced his own VFL career at Arden Street alongside his cousin but struggled to cement a senior spot, managing just four appearances across two seasons for the Shinboners. After dropping to the sub-districts with Kew to recapture his form, Morrissey earned a second chance at league level when Carlton recruited him in 1931. He quickly found his feet at Princes Park as a defender noted for his dash and determination, eventually forcing his way into the side for the club's finals campaign. In a bittersweet conclusion to his career, his final VFL appearance came in the 1931 Preliminary Final, where he played in the heartbreaking six-point loss to eventual premiers Geelong.
