Bio
Born in Tasmania and recruited out of Wesley College, George Moysey was a pivotal figure in Melbourne's transition from the VFA to the newly formed VFL. Establishing himself as a dangerous half-forward, he was one of only six Redlegs to play every match in the historic 1897 inaugural season, finishing near the top of the club's goalkicking list. Moysey was stylistically distinct for his era, noted as an early exponent of the handball who was frequently criticised by contemporary scribes for overusing the manual pass in a kick-dominated game. He departed the VFL at the turn of the century to seek his fortune in the Western Australian goldfields, where he eventually captained Perth and represented his adopted state in first-class cricket.
