Bio
Recruited from the Sunday League after serving in the Australian Army during World War II, George Nelson broke into the Collingwood side in 1944. He operated primarily as a back pocket, playing 24 games over two seasons at Victoria Park during the league's wartime era. Nelson crossed to Richmond for the 1946 season but struggled to cement a spot in the senior lineup, adding just two games to his career tally. Although his time at the top level was brief, he left Punt Road as a reserves premiership player before continuing his football journey with Williamstown in the VFA and later as a successful country coach.
