Stats
Bio
Recruited from Wesley College, George Richards was a teenage addition to the Melbourne squad during the club’s calamitous 1906 season. With the Redlegs clinging to strict amateur status while their rivals professionalised, the team slumped to the wooden spoon with just a single victory. Richards debuted as a 17-year-old in a loss to Geelong at Corio Oval, but his short career was defined by the brutality of his second and final appearance. Selected for the late-season clash against Fitzroy at the MCG, he was part of a lineup that suffered a massive 107-point shellacking. He never returned to VFL level and died prematurely in 1928, aged just 39.
