Bio
Recruited from Leeton in the prolific Riverina football zone, George Schlitz was a solid utility who earned his opportunity at the highest level with St Kilda in 1933. Born in the Victorian town of Quambatook but established as a footballer in New South Wales, the 180cm recruit possessed the height to fill key roles but found it difficult to crack a regular spot in the Saints' senior side. He played seven games in his debut season, managing just a single goal, before departing the VFL system the following year. Schlitz transferred to the VFA to represent Sandringham, where he found greater consistency with 13 appearances in 1934, before eventually returning to the Riverina district where he lived out the remainder of his life.
