Teams

George Shaw was a Ballarat native who earned a brief call-up to Fitzroy during the club's historic first VFL premiership season. Recruited from the local Fitzroy Crescent club, he provided a tall option at 180cm and broke into the senior side midway through the 1898 campaign. Shaw managed to boot a goal during his five senior appearances, but he found it difficult to hold his place in a dominant lineup stacked with stars like Mick Grace and Alec Sloan. While he was ultimately omitted before the finals and missed out on the Grand Final victory over Essendon, Shaw played his part as a squad member in the Maroons' breakthrough premiership year before his short-lived top-level career came to a close.
