Bio
Recruited from Keilor, George Spero was a promising half-forward who managed to break into a formidable Essendon lineup fresh off their 1959 Grand Final appearance. He made his senior debut early in the 1960 season, bringing enthusiasm and energy to the forward line, but his VFL career was cruelly cut short after just five games due to a severe knee injury. Unable to continue at the elite level, he eventually returned to Keilor where he became a key figure for six seasons before finishing his playing days with Tooberac. Despite his brief stint in the seniors, Spero remained a dedicated stalwart of the club, maintaining a lifelong connection with Windy Hill as an active and respected member of the past players' association until his passing in 2022.
