Bio
Regarded as one of the finest full-backs of the inter-war period, George Todd revolutionised defensive play at Geelong between 1922 and 1934. Unlike the traditional stay-at-home defenders of his era, Todd was renowned for his spectacular high marking and dashing rebound, often turning defence into attack with long, propelling drop kicks. He anchored the backline during the Cats' golden run, playing a pivotal role in the breakthrough 1925 premiership and the 1931 flag triumph, while his individual brilliance was rewarded with the club best and fairest in 1927.
A one-club player who amassed 232 games, Todd held the Geelong games record for several decades after his retirement. He captained the side in 1930 and during his final season in 1934, providing leadership to a changing list. His legacy as a dominant aerialist and defensive pioneer was formally recognised with his induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame and his selection at full-back in Geelong's Team of the Century.
