Born in Omeo but progressing through the Collingwood District reserves, George Tory was a mid-sized utility who earned a call-up to the senior side for the opening round of the 1922 season. He held his place for the first two weeks under coach Jock McHale, managing to snag a goal, but struggled to cement a permanent role within the Magpies' competitive lineup. After his brief VFL stint concluded, he transferred to Hawthorn to continue his career in the VFA, representing the Mayblooms shortly before their elevation to the major league.
