Bio
Originally recruited from North Hobart, Gerrard Bennett began his AFL journey with Geelong after being selected with pick 47 in the 1996 National Draft. Unable to break into the Cats' senior lineup, he was traded to Sydney ahead of the 1999 season, where he eventually established himself as a versatile utility capable of playing at either end of the ground. His time at the elite level was marred by persistent durability issues, with multiple shoulder and knee reconstructions limiting him to just 32 games over four seasons with the Swans. Bennett was offered a final lifeline by St Kilda in the 2003 Pre-Season Draft, but a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in a pre-season practice match cruelly ended his career before he could don the Saints guernsey in a senior match.
