Bio
Recruited from Brighton Grammar, Gerry Balme was a local St Kilda product who established himself as a defender during the club's difficult early years in the VFL. After five seasons with the Saints, he moved to Western Australia in 1906, where he carved out a significant legacy as a four-time captain of West Perth in the WAFL. Balme eventually returned to Victoria for a final swan song with St Kilda in 1915, bridging a nine-year gap between his VFL appearances. His football journey is often noted by modern fans for his family connection, as he was the great-uncle of Richmond premiership player and administrator Neil Balme.
