Bio
Gerry Daly was a premiership player whose promising VFL career was severely curtailed by World War II. Recruited from Sandhurst in the Bendigo Football League, the winger enjoyed a dream start to his time at Melbourne, playing in 13 consecutive wins before experiencing his first defeat. He famously shifted to a forward pocket for the 1941 Grand Final against Essendon, where he booted one of only two goals in his entire career to help the Demons secure the flag. Daly’s football journey was interrupted by service with the Australian Army in Bougainville, and although he returned to the club in 1946, he added just three more games to his tally before hanging up the boots.
