Bio
Recruited from the bayside amateur outfit Beaumaris, Gil Lockhart was a busy and determined wingman whose brief VFL career holds a unique place in local history. After initially cutting his teeth in the Blues' Under 19s, Lockhart returned to his home club to feature in their 1965 premiership side before catching the eye of Carlton selectors again the following season. He was handed the obscure number 45 guernsey and granted his senior debut by coach Ron Barassi in Round 6, 1966, where he featured as the 19th man in a victory over Footscray. Lockhart retained his spot on the bench for a subsequent trip to Kardinia Park against Geelong but was omitted following the loss, eventually departing Princes Park without adding to his two-game tally. Despite his short tenure, he is remembered as the first Beaumaris junior to graduate to VFL senior ranks, paving the way for future stars from the region.
