Bio
Recruited from Kyabram in the Goulburn Valley, Glen Coghlan arrived at St Kilda via the 1995 Pre-Season Draft after spending a year on Collingwood's supplementary list. Standing 190cm, he was a mobile key position prospect who initially trialled at centre half-forward before finding his niche as a defender. He showed steady improvement over his first two seasons, featuring in the Saints' 1996 Ansett Cup premiership side, but his career is largely defined by a cruel case of "what might have been" during the club's famous 1997 campaign. Coghlan was in career-best form midway through that season—gathering 20 disposals and seven marks in a Round 11 win over his old side Collingwood—when he suffered a severe knee injury. The injury not only ruled him out of St Kilda's subsequent Grand Final charge but required multiple surgeries that ultimately forced his retirement without him adding to his 29-game tally.
