Glenn Archer

Recruited from Noble Park, Glenn Archer established himself as one of the most courageous players in the history of the game during a celebrated 16-season career with North Melbourne. Making his debut in 1992, he quickly became a central figure in the Kangaroos' defence, though his versatility allowed coach Denis Pagan to utilise him forward or in the midfield when required. Renowned for his fearless attack on the football and willingness to back into packs without regard for his own safety, Archer embodied the club's "Shinboner Spirit" more than any other contemporary player, eventually being named the "Shinboner of the Century" during the club's 150th-anniversary celebrations in 2005.

Archer's on-field toughness was matched by his ability to perform on the biggest stage. He played a pivotal role in North Melbourne's dominance during the 1990s, winning premierships in 1996 and 1999. His performance in the 1996 Grand Final against Sydney earned him the Norm Smith Medal, where his intercept marking and defensive desperation set the tone for the victory. While rarely a high-volume possession winner, his disposals were often damaging, and his physical presence acted as an enforcer for his teammates, ensuring the Kangaroos were rarely physically intimidated.
