Recruited from Benalla, Glenn Coleman was a mobile ruckman and key position utility who carved out a significant career as a journeyman across three VFL/AFL clubs. He initially broke into the senior ranks with Fitzroy in the early 1980s, showing promise as a tall option who could drift forward, but he parted ways with the Lions after the 1984 season. In a pivotal career move, Coleman spent 1985 in the VFA with Williamstown, where his dominant form in a premiership side attracted the attention of the Sydney Swans, earning him a second chance at the elite level.

Coleman rewarded the Swans' faith with four consistent seasons before returning to Victoria to join Footscray in 1990. It was at the Western Oval that he perhaps played his most culturally significant football, becoming a cult figure and a structural pillar during the club's resurgence under Terry Wheeler. A reliable mark and an experienced head, he provided essential support to a young list and played a key role in the Bulldogs' memorable run to the 1992 Preliminary Final. After retiring in 1993, he maintained a long association with the Western Bulldogs in various off-field administrative and team management roles.
