Bio
A classic case of one club’s trash becoming another’s treasure, Glenn Manton transformed from an Essendon cast-off into a Carlton premiership player. Originally a local product from Strathmore who captained the Bombers' Under-19s, Manton broke into the senior side in 1992 but struggled to cement a permanent spot under Kevin Sheedy. Despite showing raw athletic potential, he was delisted at the end of 1994, leaving his AFL career hanging by a thread before it had truly established momentum.
Handed a lifeline by Carlton in the 1995 Pre-Season Draft, Manton immediately repaid the faith, slotting into a dominant Blues outfit that would storm to the premiership that very year. Though often conceding height to opposing key forwards, he utilised his exceptional vertical leap, closing speed, and sheer competitiveness to become a reliable spoiling defender. He spent the next nine seasons as a fixture in the Carlton backline, endearing himself to the faithful as a cult figure who played with heart and personality, ultimately racking up over 150 games for the club.
