Bio
A physically mature recruit from the Chelsea Football Club, Glenn Murphy arrived at Hawthorn with a reputation as a precocious talent, having already played in back-to-back senior premierships in the MPNFL as a teenager. He broke into the Hawks' lineup in 1968, utilizing his solid frame to win hard ball in the packs and absorb punishment from experienced VFL opponents. Murphy played his best football as a tough, contested ball-winner who could clear the ball to advantage, managing 32 senior games over three seasons at Glenferrie Oval. However, he was unable to secure a long-term position in John Kennedy Snr’s developing powerhouse and departed the club at the conclusion of the 1970 season, just one year shy of Hawthorn’s second VFL premiership. Murphy later returned to Chelsea, where he cemented his legacy as a local great and eventually captained the club.
