Bio
Glenn Payne was a small forward and rover who struggled to cement a regular spot in the powerhouse North Melbourne sides of the late 1970s. Recruited to the club during its "Golden Era" under Ron Barassi, Payne faced the unenviable task of breaking into a midfield and forward line stacked with legends like Malcolm Blight, Barry Cable, and Wayne Schimmelbusch. He made his debut in 1978, wearing the number 51 guernsey, but was largely restricted to a depth role, managing just 13 senior games over four seasons. At 178cm, he was a nimble option near goal, but with opportunities scarce in a premiership-contending squad, he was never able to string together a consistent run of matches before departing the club after the 1981 season.
