Bio
A champion schoolboy footballer from East Coburg, Godfrey Goldin progressed through the ranks with the Coburg Amateurs before earning his chance at Essendon. He worked his way up through the reserves to debut as a rover in 1939, where he displayed sharp goal sense and promise as a clever small man in the Dons' forward half. His VFL journey was abruptly halted by military service during the Second World War, where he served with the 2/7th Battalion in North Africa and the Pacific. Tragically, Goldin never returned to Windy Hill, dying of wounds sustained during the Battle of Wau in New Guinea in 1943, leaving behind a legacy defined by unfulfilled football potential and the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
