Bio
Recruited from Swan Hill, Gordon Casey initially broke into the VFL with Carlton in 1968. However, securing a permanent spot in a powerful Blues lineup destined for that season's premiership proved difficult, and he managed just a single senior appearance before crossing to the Western Oval the following year. It was at Footscray where Casey established himself as a reliable defensive pillar, becoming a regular selection in the backline for seven seasons.
Operating primarily as a full-back or in the back pocket, Casey was a close-checking defender known for his discipline and ability to quell dangerous opposition forwards. He became a consistent performer for the Bulldogs throughout the early 1970s, playing a vital role in the club's defence during their 1974 finals campaign. After racking up 125 games in the red, white and blue, Casey retired from VFL football at the conclusion of the 1975 season.
