Bio
Recruited from Trentham, Gordon Davie was a talented dual-sportsman whose VFL career was ultimately dictated by the tyranny of distance. A professional runner who later finished second in a 440-yard handicap at the Stawell Gift, he used his elite endurance and strong frame to play as a hard-running centreman. Collingwood brought him to Victoria Park in the middle of the 1924 season, where he debuted against Melbourne and held his own against star opponent Bob Corbett. Despite showing promise across two games on the ball and up forward, the strain of commuting from the country while working at a foundry proved too difficult, and he returned home at the end of the year. While later courted by Carlton, Richmond, and Melbourne, Davie remained in the bush, eventually captaining Trentham to a premiership in 1930.
