Bio
Recruited from St Kilda's local zone, Gordon Fode was a precocious talent who made his senior debut as a 17-year-old schoolboy before establishing himself as a fixture in the side during the 1989 season. A busy rover with a background in elite junior soccer, his promising start was derailed by severe hamstring issues that restricted him to just four games over the next three years. Fode eventually reinvented himself as a crumbing small forward, kicking handy goals at the feet of Tony Lockett and Stewart Loewe in 1993, but he struggled to permanently cement his place in the Saints' best 22. He was thrown a lifeline by Hawthorn in the 1996 pre-season draft but could not add to his senior game tally at Glenferrie Oval, ultimately retiring as a player of unfulfilled potential due to his battle with injury.
