Bio
Born in Belmore, New South Wales, but developed his football in the Ballarat region with Golden Point, Gordon Hale was a wartime recruit who earned his chance with Footscray in 1943. Arriving at the Western Oval as a 20-year-old, he was brought in to bolster a squad affected by player shortages during the Second World War. Hale played five senior games and booted two goals, operating primarily as a forward option for the Bulldogs. Unable to secure a permanent spot in the lineup, he departed the VFL and crossed to the VFA, where he lined up for Yarraville in 1945. His brief tenure serves as a reminder of the many regional players who stepped up to ensure the league continued throughout the war years.
