Bio
Hailing from a prominent sporting family, Gordon Kearney was the younger half-brother of Essendon champion and all-round sportsman Dr. Gus Kearney. A product of Geelong College, Gordon initially broke into the VFL with the Pivotonians in 1903 as a teenager, where he was utilised as a defender across six senior appearances. After a four-year hiatus from the league, he crossed to Essendon midway through the 1907 season, a move that carried significant weight as it occurred just months after the tragic, premature death of his brother Gus. Kearney managed five games for the Same Olds, labouring in a backline that secured only one victory during his tenure, before he quietly bowed out of top-level football.
