Stats
Bio
Recruited from Wedderburn in central Victoria, Gordon Waters took a circuitous route to VFL senior football that saw him trial with Footscray and spend time on the Melbourne reserves list before finding his home at Glenferrie Oval. His opportunity at Hawthorn finally arrived in 1937 as part of a player swap deal that saw him and Ken Feltscheer join the Mayblooms in exchange for Bert Chandler. A rugged defender who primarily operated across the half-back line, Waters made an immediate impression with his physical play, earning selection in The Argus newspaper's team of the year for first-year players. He remained a steady defensive presence for the club over five seasons, often battling against the odds in a struggling side before finishing his VFL career during the early years of the Second World War.
