Bio
Born in the Victorian goldfields town of Talbot, Gower Ross was a solid footballer whose brief VFL career was overshadowed by a decorated tenure in the Association and a tragic wartime destiny. Following eight senior games and two goals for St Kilda in the 1909 season, he crossed to Brunswick in the VFA, where he reinvented himself as a dependable defender and on-field leader. Ross became a stalwart for the Magpies, amassing 96 games and featuring in three Grand Finals, serving as a key pillar in their backline until the outbreak of global conflict. His football journey ended when he enlisted in the military, eventually commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Flying Corps, where he served until he was shot down and killed in action over France in 1917.
