Teams

Recruited from Kingsville in the Footscray District League, Graeme Cook was a gifted dual sportsman whose VFL career was ultimately curtailed by his elite cricketing commitments. Breaking into the senior side as an 18-year-old, he developed into a reliable half-back flanker known for his endurance and overhead marking, though he was arguably most effective as an undersized ruckman who relied on intelligence and positioning to outpoint taller opponents. A member of the club’s 1967 Night Premiership victory, Cook’s football duties frequently clashed with his cricket schedule, which included captaining the Australian Under-19 team on a tour of the West Indies. This divided focus saw him retire from VFL football at just 22 years of age, after which he enjoyed a long tenure in District Cricket with Footscray and St Kilda while playing VFA football for Yarraville.
