Honours

A product of the Richmond Thirds, where he was a premiership player and best and fairest winner, Graeme Gahan developed into a dashing half-back flanker during a transitional era for the Tigers. Renowned for his straight-ahead style and elite speed—he was a professional sprinter outside of football—Gahan became a consistent performer in the early 1960s, notably finishing third in the 1962 best and fairest and earning state selection for Victoria that same year. He tasted silverware with the club's 1962 Night Series premiership victory but opted to leave the VFL at just 24 years of age to accept a captain-coaching role in Tasmania. Gahan enjoyed immediate success across Bass Strait, leading Scottsdale to a premiership, and was awarded Richmond life membership in recognition of his service.
