Recruited from Kyabram in the Goulburn Valley, Graeme Haslem was a diminutive footballer who joined Hawthorn at the beginning of the club's first golden era. Standing just 168cm, he was a rover who relied on his ground-level skills to compete at the highest level. He made his debut in Round 1 of the historic 1961 season, playing three games that year as the Hawks marched toward their maiden premiership, though he was ultimately unable to displace established midfield stars like Brendan Edwards or Ian Law from the finals campaign. Haslem remained a depth player at Glenferrie Oval for another two seasons, making sporadic appearances in the senior team before departing at the end of 1963.
