Bio
Recruited from New Norfolk in Tasmania, Graeme Hinchen joined Fitzroy in 1981 as part of a successful interstate recruiting drive that helped propel the Lions back into finals contention. A tenacious and disciplined defender, Hinchen established himself in the back pocket where his primary role was to negate dangerous small and medium forwards rather than generate attacking drive. He became a defensive staple during the club's resurgence under Robert Walls, playing a crucial role in the backline during the 1981 and 1983 finals campaigns. While rarely a high-possession winner, his reliability in one-on-one contests ensured he remained a regular senior player for the majority of his seven-season tenure, eventually retiring after the 1987 season.
