A sturdy and reliable ruckman, Graeme Jenkin is an unfortunate figure in football folklore whose respectable playing career is perpetually overshadowed by a single split-second moment. Establishing himself at Collingwood in the mid-1960s, Jenkin was known as an honest toiler who used his physical strength to contest stoppages and drift forward to impact the scoreboard. He became a regular fixture in the Magpies' lineup, playing in significant finals matches, but found his opportunities limited as teammate Len Thompson developed into the dominant ruckman of the competition. Jenkin is destined to be remembered as the unwitting prop for Alex Jesaulenko's "Mark of the Century" in the 1970 Grand Final, a highlight that has been replayed endlessly despite Jenkin actually performing admirably throughout that specific match.

After a decade of service at Victoria Park, Jenkin crossed to Essendon in 1974, bringing valuable experience to the Bombers' list. The move allowed him to extend his career for another three seasons, providing seasoned support in the ruck division as the club navigated a transitional period. While often recalled simply as the man underneath the most famous mark in VFL/AFL history, Jenkin was a dedicated clubman who notched nearly 150 senior games and kicked almost 90 goals during a tough, competitive era of Victorian football.
