Bio
Recruited from Wynyard on Tasmania’s north-west coast, Graeme "Gypsy" Lee was a pacy wingman and half-forward who crossed Bass Strait to join St Kilda in 1961. As the second Indigenous player to represent the Saints, he arrived at Moorabbin with a reputation for elite skill, particularly his ability to deliver low, raking drop kicks with either foot. Despite his talent, Lee's VFL career was frustrated by persistent injuries and strong competition for spots, restricting him to 18 senior appearances over two seasons, though he notably starred in the club's 1961 reserves premiership triumph. He returned to Tasmania in 1963 to accept a captain-coach role with Launceston, where he ultimately cemented his status as a state football legend, captaining Tasmania and earning All-Australian selection in 1966.
