Bio
Recruited from Sunshine in Melbourne’s western suburbs, Graeme Saunders arrived at Arden Street as a mature 22-year-old recruit in the early 1960s. Standing 179cm, he was a medium-sized utility who primarily operated in the defensive half, noted for his ability to fill gaps in the backline rather than his attacking flair. Saunders made his senior debut in 1961, breaking into a North Melbourne side that was languishing in the middle of the ladder. Despite earning opportunities over two consecutive seasons, he struggled to cement a permanent place in the starting 18 and was unable to hit the scoreboard during his brief tenure. He finished his VFL career with 10 games to his name, serving as a depth player for the Shinboners before departing the top level.
