Bio
Recruited from Maryborough in country Victoria, Graeme Whitnall was a strong-bodied tall utility who is perhaps best known to modern football fans as the father of future Carlton captain Lance Whitnall. Capable of playing in the ruck or resting forward, he possessed a strong pair of hands and a physical presence, yet he found himself battling for regular selection against legendary big men like Percy Jones and Mike Fitzpatrick. This intense competition for spots during a successful era at Princes Park meant Whitnall frequently moved between the senior side and the reserves, serving as a reliable depth player rather than a permanent fixture in the starting eighteen. While he enjoyed his most consistent run of form in 1978, he was unable to force his way into the club's premiership sides of the era and eventually left the VFL following the 1981 season.
