Bio
Recruited from Euroa in the country leagues, Graham Diggle was a solidly built follower who made an immediate impression at Victoria Park in 1907. Standing 180cm—a considerable height for a ruckman of the Edwardian era—he played nine of his thirteen career games in his debut season, offering a physical presence around the stoppages. Despite this initial promise, he struggled to maintain a regular spot in the senior side over the subsequent two years and was eventually cleared back to Euroa in 1909. Diggle later carved out a respectable tenure in the VFA with Essendon A before becoming a legendary figure in the Seymour district as a premiership-winning captain-coach. His local legacy was cemented off the field by his profession as an undertaker, which inspired the dark country humour of the town’s famous catchphrase: "When it ceases to wriggle, you take it to Diggle."
