Bio
Recruited from the local Waverley squad and Richmond Technical School, Graham Gaunt spent his early career fighting for recognition in the Tigers' powerhouse lineup of the 1970s. Despite being a highly decorated player in the lower grades—featuring in five premiership sides across the Reserves and Under-19s—he found himself stuck behind a wall of legends at Punt Road, eventually spending two seasons on loan at VFA club Oakleigh to get regular game time. In search of greater senior opportunities, Gaunt requested a clearance to Melbourne in 1978 as part of a three-way deal involving Essendon. The switch proved to be the making of his career, as he immediately slotted into the Demons' lineup as a versatile ruck-rover and half-back. Known for his tremendous stamina and creative use of handball, he became a consistent contributor at the MCG, playing the bulk of his 88 career games in the red and blue before hanging up the boots in 1982.
