Bio
Recruited from Tarwin in South Gippsland, Grant Thomas began his VFL career as a centre half-back with St Kilda, where he played the majority of his football during a difficult era for the club. A competitive and physical defender, he was capable of astute reading of the play but ultimately became something of a journeyman, completing short, single-season stints at North Melbourne and Fitzroy before retiring at the relatively young age of 27. Although his playing days yielded a respectable 83 games across three clubs, Thomas carved out a much more significant legacy off the field, returning to Moorabbin decades later to serve as St Kilda's senior coach, where he led the Saints to consecutive preliminary finals and became known for his outspoken, player-centric leadership style.
