Bio
Recruited from Rupanyup in the Wimmera Football League, where he was a teenage premiership player and Toohey Medalist, Greg Bell arrived at Essendon as a defensive prospect with significant potential. He made an immediate impression at Windy Hill in 1975, displaying courage and strong marking ability to win the club’s Best First Year Player award despite his debut season being cut short by a severe knee injury in Round 9. That injury forced him to miss the entire 1976 campaign, and while he returned to the senior lineup in 1977, he struggled to recapture the dominance of his early games. Bell managed just one final appearance in late 1978, where he booted the only goal of his VFL career, before departing the league to captain-coach Croydon.
