Bio
Recruited from the Chelsea Football Club, Greg Hutchison was a resilient utility who battled for senior opportunities throughout a decade-long tenure at Melbourne. Often operating on the fringes of selection, he served as a reliable depth player who could plug gaps in defence or the midfield, ultimately playing more games in the reserves (115) than in the seniors (96). His playing days were hampered by injuries, including a serious Achilles issue in 1982, but he finished his on-field time at the Demons by captaining the reserves to a premiership in 1984. Hutchison later forged a significant coaching career, steering Prahran to a VFA premiership and returning to Melbourne as a caretaker senior coach in 1997 following the dismissal of Neil Balme.
