Recruited from Eaglehawk after kicking massive goal tallies in the Bendigo League, Greg Kennedy arrived at Princes Park with high expectations and delivered one of the most impactful debut seasons in VFL history. A rangy, athletic full-forward known for his strong marking and reliable set shot, he immediately became the focal point of the Blues' attack, topping the club's goalkicking in 1972 and booting a stunning 12 goals in a single match against Hawthorn. Kennedy was a key fixture in Carlton's famous 1972 premiership victory over Richmond, but his meteoric rise was cruelly cut short by a severe back injury that restricted his output in 1973 and wiped out his entire 1974 campaign. Although he returned briefly the following year, he could not recapture his explosive best and was delisted, leaving the game as a premiership hero whose brilliant potential was curtailed by injury.
