Bio
Greg Lambert arrived at the Lake Oval from Corowa in the Riverina, bringing a country resilience that would define his fourteen-season tenure with South Melbourne. Recruited as a promising talent from the Hume Junior Football League, he broke into the senior side in 1966 and gradually cemented his place as a versatile and dependable utility. While the Swans endured a prolonged period without finals success during his career, Lambert became a fixture of the team's defensive rotation, most often tasked with manning the back pocket or providing drive along the wing.
Known for his durability and unassuming consistency, Lambert was a key figure in the South Melbourne lineup throughout the 1970s. He was the type of player who rarely grabbed the headlines but performed his role with disciplined accountability, offering stability to a backline often under siege. His longevity was a testament to his value, racking up 167 games in the red and white before eventually departing to continue his football journey in the VFA with Dandenong.
