Bio
Recruited from Marcellin College, Greg Madigan’s career is defined by one of the most dramatic initiations in league history. In just his sixth senior game, the tall key defender was thrust into Hawthorn’s 1989 Grand Final side to replace the suspended Peter Schwab, winning a premiership medallion in the famous, bruising encounter against Geelong. Despite this golden start, he struggled to cement a permanent position in the Hawks' star-studded lineup over the subsequent seasons, often finding himself on the fringe of selection. Seeking greater opportunity, Madigan moved west as the second pick in the 1995 Pre-Season Draft to join Fremantle’s inaugural squad, where he provided experienced cover in defence for the new franchise. Although his playing career concluded after three seasons with the Dockers, he holds a unique place in history as a premiership winner in his debut year and later contributed to the game’s administration as the Head of AFL Victoria.
