Bio
Hailing from Cooee in Tasmania, Greg Towns was a fiery, red-headed utility who found himself battling for a spot in one of the strongest midfields in VFL history. A versatile ball-winner capable of playing through the centre or drifting forward, Towns possessed excellent foot skills and evasion but was perpetually fighting for a guernsey against superstars like Alex Jesaulenko and Wayne Johnston. Despite representing Tasmania in the 1979 State of Origin carnival, he was heartbreakingly squeezed out of Carlton's finals campaign later that year, missing out on the premiership. Seeking greater opportunity after being held out of the Blues' best 22, he transferred to Footscray in 1980 where he added valuable experience to a developing list before finishing his VFL career.
